Rebirth of a Classic?

Postby Graz on Thu Aug 26, 2010 4:57 am

18 years ago I seriously was tempted to get one of these. Sanity prevailed, even at the crazy low price it was offered for. It looked perfect, ran well, BUT had a Lancia engine fitted! Comparable performance but not quite the real thing.

Now some dude has asked Lancia to remake for him, and what they did looks rather nice imho!

What do you reckon - new or old takes the cake? Any Stratos owners out there?

Lancia is not involved in this remake. The original Stratos had a Ferrari engine. The design is from Bertone's Marcello Gandini. There have been made several replicas or kitcars from the Stratos. Your's might have been one of them.

I saw this written up elsewhere a few days ago -- design by Pininfarina, all carbon bodywork, shortened Ferrari F430 chassis, about 2x the bhp/ton of the original --

I'm sure it would be a hoot to drive. And looks pretty cool, esp in that carbon-gray finish. (Though I'd have to see it in person to have an opinion on the aesthetics... an Alfa 8c passed me going the other way on the freeway recently and while it looked very nice in photos, in the metal I found it rather busy.) All in all, new Stratos appears to be one of the rare automotive projects of the super-rich that is somewhat tasteful.

cheers,

Why does that remind me of Pokemon?

From a Subaru to this?

Do you really want us to see that on Google satellite? I can only imagine...

Slap yourself silly and wake up, mate!

Probably the only guy in hi-end audio who could afford a new Stratos would be Pete Wilson... not sure what emoticon that warrants. Also not sure if Wilson should be classified as hi-end (based on my listening experiences).
