Apogee Cassiopeia

Postby Zardoz on Thu Apr 25, 2013 9:51 pm

Anyone know anything about these? Graz, are the ribbons available for them, if needed? My brother in law needs something for his office, and these looked interesting to me.

Thanks,
Z

Yep ribbons are available, but fitting new ones is a fun soldering job :geek:

I guess I should have been more specific. Does anyone know what they sound like? Can anyone compare them to anything, even another Apogee? Will 40 watts really drive them ok?

Thanks,
Z

I had a pair of the earlier ones, the ribbon monitor, basically the same speaker less the angled sides.

I used them on my home theatre system with a Denon AV amp which was around 80wpc. I did have them hooked up to my main system to start with, had to check out they worked ok after repairing them due to a botched job of changing the bass drivers.

They really aren't Apogees, but the tweeter is sweet sounding and the bass is even and tuneful, you would probably have to pay £1000 ($1500) for something new to be in a similar ballpark.

One point to make, the bass drivers are no longer available and there's not much out there to replace them without having to make panel cut-out alterations.
Having said that I gave mine some pretty loud AV blasting and they survived!
