Slant 6 info

I recently refurbished my 15 year old slant 6's. Since I found very little info on line, I thought I'de post what I have learned for others.

When I bought these new in 1996 I thought they were magical though a bit bright and harsh and very critical to allignment to make less harsh. Over the years they just became magical and alignment wasn't so critical. Until recently I thought I had just gotten used to the sound. Upon replacing my midrange tweeters (KLM) they sounded like they did when new even after 70 hour of pink noise. As back then careful toe in and slant adjustments they began to sound great. I used a carpenter's square to adjust the distance from the back wall and the toe in to about 1.75'', and then cant them back until the brightness is just diminished. Then I used a laser level projected onto the back wall to make sure they are both back the same amount.

I then replaced the capacitors in the crossover with sonicaps. I am attaching a diagram here. The bottom comes off with four screws to access the crossover. I did not measure the inductance of the inductors.

They now sound better than they ever have.
