Current pricing on Synergy v2

Postby dracule1 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:08 am

Hi Graz, I visited your website and looked up the Synergy. Is the pricing on the website current? I saw some of the list of improvements you posted of the v2 over the older model. Looks extensive. How much does each speaker weigh? Are the speakers modular so one person can set them up? Does anyone in the USA have a pair? Thanks.

Hello Dracule

The web site is well out of date, and soon to have a complete overhaul. In these times all speakers are made to order, and to the client's individual requirements. Apogee Synergy's contain rare earth magnets and so are subject to the huge price swings this substance has undergone!

With speakers, if serious it is best to arrange a telephone call to discuss requirements, your location etc. That way a price formula can be arrived at that gets the job done.

Setup - these are massively heavy. It is a requirement that 2 strong and intelligent people be there for un-crating, though 3 people is easier. Once upright - and on a carpet one person can move the speakers into final listening positions.

Currently no Installers are demonstrating Synergy in the US.

I am soon to release a new speaker around the price level of the Synergy 1, though some strange administration things have delayed release. More details will be posted here soon - no advance details via email!

Unfortunately, a super heavy speaker that requires 2 to 3 people to setup is not an option for me. This new speaker you are about to introduce, can it be set up by one person?

Graz do you have any full range ribbon speaker that can be set up by one person?

The fact is that all Apogee's except the Stage in the classic line-up are not really a safe one man lift. The later types of speaker, Definitive / Synergy and the new speaker to be released all are heavy beyond the classic designs as part of their enhancements for sound quality...

Thanks. I was able to set up the Duetta by myself in the past. My current granite speakers are 110 lbs, albeit a box speaker, that I set up myself. That's about the limit of what I can do myself.

It seems a real shame to discount an amazing pair of speakers based on weight.

Do you live somewhere very remote?

If there's an Apogee anywhere near they probably would be happy to help.

I was thinking that Vans! Though with a name like that finding a volunteer to visit the castle could be a worry ;)

Dracule - I wouldn't set up a Duetta or recommend a person try that single handed as getting them clear of the crate/box is a 2 man job. The fragility of the early Apogee's cannot be discounted in handling, though once set and upright they are able to be moved to focus single handedly...

Dracule,
If by set up you mean un-crate and/or un-box the Apogees as well as set up and stand them up and position them anywhere you want them throughout your house, then indeed you will probably need some help. It is the uncrating that is so unforgiving and unwieldy. :(
However, once out of the crate, I am easily able to move around and set up my various Apogees with the help of a dolly/handcart. With a little protective and stabilizing jig of stiff heavy foam or covered/carpeted wood attached to the dolly or cart, it can be a very stable means to move Apogees. :D
No joy for the uncrating though IMHO. Although one of the installers might have some advice for you there, the only luck and ease I have had was in un-boxing, not uncrating , and the boxes suffered greatly from the Duettas being extracted from the erect boxes onto the dolly.

Glen, good to see you on this forum.

If uncrating is the major issue in setting up the Apogee by one person, then why can the crate be built so the speaker can be easily taken out by a dolly? My speakers came in a wooden crate, which was built to have the speaker simply slide out after some screws were removed. Based on the picture of Graz's wood/aluminum crate I saw, it seems that you should not have too much trouble taking the speaker out with a dolly when the crate is set upright up against the wall on one side. How much does the Synergy weigh? The Scintilla weighs 180 lbs each, so I would think the Synergy shouldn't weigh too much more than that.
