Centaur Minor adding subs

Postby Joontree on Fri Feb 21, 2014 11:39 pm

Hey everyone, here's the situation: overall I'm pretty happy with my the sound my system gets out of the Centaur Minors (driven by 2x nad216thx in mono) as far as clarity and overall soundstage. What I'm now looking to do is improve on bass/deep bass response.

What I'm looking to get is a pair of matching woofers (I like symmetry) that will blend well with the Centaur Minor sound i.e. pick up the bass where the Minors leave off. Possibly (but not necessarily) a cube design where the minors could sit on top of the woofers.

Does anyone have any recommendations for subs that mate particularly well with the minors? Also any experience setting up the crossovers will be helpful. Obviously sound quality is paramount but I'd prefer not to break the bank here (so suggestions for woofers that are 4-figures each won't be very useful to me). Thanks in advance!

With my Centaurs (not Minors) I'm using one MJ Acoustics Reference 100 Mk. II sub That is doing a really fine job.

But, another thought I want to give you is, I have added bypass caps in the X-overs of my C's, and they do miracles, also for the bass.
This might be a good starting point for you. Read all about it here.
