External crossover for Calipers?

Hi,
haven't been on here for awhile. Was once in the process of repainting my Calipers a while back, but had to be put on hold due to family illness.
Anyway have started back up and taken covers off etc,had a look at ribbons and with some experimenting have gotten one of the speakers to almost not buzz at all(at high volumes)..
What Im thinking off is can I add some external crossover so the ribbons don't see anything under 45hz?
I have 2 Classe DR-9's driving them with a Classe DR-4 pre-amp. What would be the easiest way to go about doing this, know that I have to get a sub to take over the low's.
Also with the 2 claps for the top and bottom of the ribbons, can they be removed without effecting the tension on the ribbon?

George

Some subs have a high pass circuit built in to do this, I have seen the feature on B&W for sure.

You can perform the roll-off at line level with a capacitor but I don't think it would be steep enough, plus calculating the value can be tricky as it depends on the specifics of the input circuitry of the amp.

If you're planning on using a subwoofer then your best option is to get one with its own low pass filter.

If you want more flexibility, look on ebay for a dbx crossover, model 234 or 223 or such; they're cheap. These are line level, between your preamp and amp. You can use it without a sub to do just the cutoff. Adding a sub later is no problem.

Thanks for replies. Have taken covers off speakers and starting to sand them down. Will start looking around for a sub.
