Scintilla with FR transformer box

Postby Atom on Sun Dec 17, 2017 8:24 pm

Can the Scintilla be used with the FR transformer/crossover box? Using the bass transformer for the Bass panel and the MR transformer for the MR and tweeter?
Thanks
Andrew

The impedances of the drive units are different, but the main problem is the mid and tweeters of the Scintilla share the same ground, so you would have to rewire the boxes, maybe just link the grounds.

However the Scintilla bass is around 1 ohm the Full Range 1.6 ohms, so if the transformer is tuned for 1.6 ohms the level of the bass will be low I think.

Scintilla mid 0.2 ohms if you disconnect the rear resistor, Full Range about 0.3 ohms, tweeters are pretty close.

Yes, the impedance does not match, rewiring nearly impossible due construction and the original transformers are far away from good quality and efficiency.

I invested for my FR into 4 custom made transformers with 3 Ohm input impedance totally around 2 k$, they present easy load and 85 % or more efficiency, each powerhandling apx. 250 Watts.

The x-over frequencies are also different for FR and SC and so on....

The SC is a bitch to drive, but today we have some good amps 1 ohm capable.
