Recipe for Vince's foil SC's ?

Postby artm on Thu Sep 12, 2019 3:37 am

Hello All,

It has been a long time...

I've been browsing this forum and others on Vince's use of copper foil SC's. Been trying to determine what exactly he did but not getting far. Did come across one post where he used 12 gauge film (0.003mm), perhaps 25mm wide?

I know his run is short. Mine will probably be 6-12 ft, mostly out of convenience, between an H2O S250 Sig and Caliper Sigs.

Should I still consider using this technique?

Any help appreciated.

From this post:

https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/ ... _order=asc

Vince says he uses 0.003-in (0.0762-mm) x 18-in long cables. Width is probably 25-mm?

Getting there...

I tried some similar a few years ago, they were ok, but sounded a bit bright and lightweight compared to even ordinary OFC copper speaker cable.

I believe Vince successfully used his cables with original spec ribbons, not Graz's. I'm not getting into that again.

At any rate, I'll wait for more input before I commit to doing something...

If I recall correctly, he made them from silver foil

Art, I didn't run them on Apogees, you assumed that of course and you know what assuming makes you...

If you want a cheap way to try it buy a Mundorf 12 gauge foil inductor and unwind it.

SC's means Speaker Cables?
Try using actual words instead of inventing abbreviations?

Geez...So far I've been told I'm an ass, the inventor "SC" and pissing on someone's lawn. Luckily, this is not an alltime low for me on this forum!

So, again, what's the basic recipe: gauge, width, length? Can I run these at 12-16 foot lengths?

I suppose I'll try Mundorf or Jantzen, both are 99.99% copper. 14 gauge?

I was throwing shade at EldRick, not you Al. Sorry I can't help with the experiment though.
Good listening,
