Headphones that sound most like Apogee full range ribbons

Postby MattC on Tue Oct 23, 2018 1:43 am

So which headphones sound the most like the the big Apogees - Duettas, Scintillas, Divas, etc.

There are all these planar magnetics out there nowadays, but do any them sound like Apogees?

I'm considering at least a short-term relocation to the Colorado / New Mexico area in another 13 months, and am looking at the room sizes of rentals; and it certainly appears that the likelihood of finding a space large for my Duettas is slim and none! So the Duettas may go into storage again, at least over the short-term, until I come up with a long-term plan.

But which headphones will make it easiest to forget them?

Inasmuch as my listening tastes tends 70%-80% classical, I'm thinking about the Sennheiser 800S - which apparently image as well as well as any headphone out there. And representing the spread of an orchestra is one of the things that my Duetta Sigs do masterfully. But the 800S apparently don't have the tonal weight of the big Apogee ribbons.

Any ideas?
