Full Range setup questions

Postby RuedigerC on Mon Jan 16, 2012 5:17 pm

Hi There!
I have a lot of questions regarding the correct set-up of a pair of Fullrange.
This is the situation:
Signal is coming from Lyngdorf DPA-1 preamp.
In the Lyngdorf the signal is split electronically at 400 Hz with first order Butterworth.
Then the signal is going to two MX-D1 stereo amplifiers.
Vertical biamping -one for left, one for right.
Bass signal and MT is fed to the transformer Box.
Sound is ok but very bright.
I have turned down the MT down to -6db at the Lyngdorf.
So bass and MT do blend well. But the Tweeter is still very bright.

Now the situation with bass signnal feeding the ribbon directly:
Sound is much better (no adjustments to be made at the levels)
But the tweeter is still too bright.
I tried a setup where the tweeter is not connected at all ,-seemed almost best to me.

Any clue to this?

Thanks

Do you have a picture from the transformer boxes inside and outside? It would be helpful to know the values of the x-over compenents between M and TW. ( The x-over was originally designed for 400 and 3,5 Khz, but it seems that they changed from 3,5k to apx. 9 Khz and there were transformer boxes for 4 Ohms and other ones for 1 Ohm).
What did you connect were exactly? Polarity?
The tweeters are much more efficient than the the MR due smaller magnetic gap and thus more field strength, but depends also from the impedance.

Im going to set up my FRs for some tests and measurings in the next days with 3 way active x-over, but i am also interested in the 2 -way active configuration with passive M/TW x-over.

I have pictures from the opened Transformer box.
please tell me where I should send them.
Very interesting that there exists different x-overs for the fullrange.
What is unusual is that the TBox is setup for tri-amplification.
So I have connected also the Tweeter input.
Unfortunately the original owner is unknown as I bought them used.
I am very interested about your tests!

Thank you very much,
