Apogee Stage in 2021

Postby wrat on Sat Mar 06, 2021 11:23 pm

I had a pair of stages for YEARS until the deteriorating foam caused too many issues with vibrating and buzzing.
Have all/most NON restored stages suffered this fate?

The Stages were designed with a different format to the other Apogee's in a few ways, the worst was the lack of a lower clamp set. Having only an upper clamp set put extra stress on the lower foam that was on the edge, without rebate. In truth they should only have functioned for 5-7 years, but some are still in use now. I have a set in my collection, barely used, and stored well but the foam gave up many years ago when I gave them a try. The ribbons are a technically challenging design requiring batch production and custom construction of material for this, with moq's in line with several times the original Stage production.

They could sound good, but manufacturing quality was highly variable. I would guess most are on their way out or gone now. All other classic panel Apogee's are constructed to a far higher level, and able to be serviced.
