Problem apogee diva

Postby suso barreira on Sun Mar 30, 2014 1:57 pm

Hello,
Id like you to help me to solve this problem:
Sometimes one of the speakers stops working and when I press the low part of it, it starts sounding again, cause I think it connects better. So I guess this problem is due to a wire. Is it possible? Where does the speaker have the connections? Thanks

Where exactly do you mean by "the low part"? Are you talking about somewhere on the speaker, or the Low switch on the crossover? It's definitely a connection problem of some sort. You just need to track down exactly where it is, but it should be an easy fix once you find it.

Hello Suso

At the bottom (and top) of most of the planar Apogees, two foil wires exit the slant clamp, and go onto some small flat blocks. There is a small 3mm gap in between, and depending on who did the bass installation there either IS or IS NOT a strain relief there! Movement of the speakers stresses this joint, especially if the speakers have been "walked" into place. If no stress relief is there, the combination of this, and moving speakers around can lead to a fracture in the foil. If the foil fractures here there is a problem of intermittent or no circuit. As the foil circuit line above is only about 12mm wide and immediately goes under the bottom of the slant clamp, once the circuit is broken repair can only really be affected with a bass replacement. Sounds drastic - but hacking out sections of the upper slant clamp in the hope you can make a temporary joint is the only (mad) option here. Also - such an intermittent circuit connected to a bass ribbon can easily take out even the toughest of amplifiers - beware! I hate to be the bearer of bad news.

Best option at this stage is to book in the Divas for a thorough restoration, they will reward with an amazing performance, easily in the league of most $40K+ modern high end speakers once done...

There are several European options for an Installer, see http://www.apogeeacoustics.com/installers.html
