Audio meeting

Postby dimitri on Fri Jul 29, 2011 7:55 pm

Well, it is time again to host the Audiophile Club of Athens (ACA) meeting at my home.
This is a bit on a short notice, I was scheduled only 3 weeks ago. The event is taking place tomorrow.
Last time I undertook this event was 4 years ago.
A lot of things have changed since: my family has grown, audio has taken a few steps back, my Apogee Divas have become an endangered species due to the ever expanding territory and activities of my kids, the local economy - you are reading about it.
Still, I am being optimistic, at least about tomorrows meeting.
Some seasoned audiophiles including professionals in audio retailing are expected to show up.
The last few days have been tiring/frustrating trying to gear things up. Spent last night checking my DAX that was misbehaving (static, erratic contacts on the rake angle controlls), ended up cleaning/lubricating all controlls with WD40. It seems to have fixed the problem. I hope it lasts till tomorrow :)
I will keep you guys posted....

regards

Dimitri

Pleasure your government can't tax ;) - hope you have fun!
I have like many around the world been following 2011, "Greek style" on the news...

Nice to see you in here again Dimitri - and I hope current affairs hasn't in any way reduced the joy of your family expansion!

btw - for people who want to tell about their 2011, and want to do it amongst friends I have created this thread viewtopic.php?f=14&t=304 .

Take care - Graz

How did it go, then, Dimitri? Did the Divas hold up?

The meeting went well.
The turnout was higher than expected, considering the time of the year which is basically midsummer.
Eighteen people showed up, with very diverse audio systems and musical tastes.
Thankfully the system performed without any problems, L/R channel balance was at last ok (which was not the case at my last meeting 4 years ago) and the Divas held up well. Music material I selected was strictly non audiophile, but I think it was enjoyable. Cuts from singers / composers Bruce Springsteen, Ruben Gonzalez, Katie Mehlua, Lou Rawls, Amy Winehouse, Mozart piano/violin sonatas, Dire Straits, Tschaikovski Francesca da Rimini were played. Only the last choice I believed taxed the system, but it was deliberate :!:
The whole meeting was relaxed and casual, save for the audio presentation that everyone sat through and lasted for approx. 45 minutes. I did not care to extract comments positive or negative, since at this stage in my life I spent very little time listening to music and this is done in a non critical manner.
Still, I did get some comments in private.
A write up of the meeting by one of the members of the Audiophile Club of Athens will posted on tha aca website (http://www.aca.gr), but it will propably appear in September.
Stay tuned....

Regards
