BYBEE Internal Speaker Bullet Kit and Duetta Signature

Postby dasign on Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:08 pm

Hello boys, just completed the installation of Bybee Quantum Purifiers on my Krell FPB 350 MCX and the results are astounding. I've installed them on the AC primary side of the amp. Was quite a job, since there is a lot of wires and limited space to work but was worth all the efforts.

Basically the Bybees do not alter the frequency response of your gear, it just takes out a layer of crap out, providing additional resolution and greater soundstage width and depth. I've also ordered the BYBEE Internal Speaker Bullet Kit that I've just received. Since I use a bi-wired setup on my DS with external Xover, I had to order 2 kits. I will install these during the weekend and will keep you posted. I will also take some pictures. I am really looking forward to this project since the BYBEE Internal Speaker Bullet Kit have received positive reviews by many audiophile magazines.

Talk to you guys later

Skepticism about the (secret!) Bybee technology aside, even if you buy the concept, it would be hard to believe that it would affect the frequency range handled by the Bass panel on a DSig.

"During transit through the Quantum Purifier, quantum noise energy is stripped off the electrons, streamlining their flow through ensuing conductors." Sounds like snake oil to me...

Hello EldRick,

While I understand your initial skepticism about this concept (I was as skeptic as you are), it does improve the audio quality by a noticeable margin. This is not snake oil but a significant advance in audio design. It really takes out bakground noise out of the musical information.

Bybee devices are now used by some audio gear manufacturers as part of their original designs. I even suspect that the brand new Shunyata Hydra Talos and Triton may be using noise reduction materials similar to Bybee materials when reading their product description.

I went from a skeptical/rational initial opinion like yours, to a positive factual position, by trying out the product with an open mind about it. I agree with you that their marketing approach should to be reviewed, since it does sound like snake oil advertising. They probably want to keep the mystery around the composition of their devices to avoid being copied left and right.

Hello boys,

Just completed the installation of 2 Bybee speaker bullet kits since I operate in bi-wired mode. The job took me 4 hours since I had to think about best way to install these with minimal impact on my DS external Xover that I've built 2 years ago. These babies are not easy to place since they are somewhat large devices similar to a big capacitor.

Once the job done, there was no regrets. I've listened to a few of my favorite CD's and the result is the following: pitch black background, increase in stage width and depth, increase in perceived dynamics, greater music resolution and increase in low level spatial cues. I am no longer listening to music, I am inside the music.

Another strange phenomenom happening is that everytime I have inserted the Bybee devices (Benchmark DAC/Pre, Krell amps and DS) I have reduced my listening audio volume by a notch at each mod install. I was typically listening to a 12 o'clock volume control position before the mods. Now I have it to a 9-10 o'clock position to provide same audio volume. This is not a psychomatic effect but a real one. I like to listen to my music at a relative loud level without being an annoying level. I also suffer from minor Tinnitus disfunction on my left ear, so I want to crank the music to the max level my left ear can afford, without my ear buzzing. Now I need to leave it at the 9-10 o'clock position to get same audio volume. My theory is that our brain likes to hear music at a specific level over the electrical noise level to perform better decoding of music content. Since the Bybee is getting rid of some noise level, I do not need to crank the volume so high anymore. My 2 cents...

I don't know what of think of this. Anyway I've never heard it so what can I say?
If it works for you it's great and you're not the first and I like reading about Apogee owners improvements.

Curious as to how they fit into the xover (schematic)? Did you measure the parts?

Hello Graz,

Jack Bybee recommends that the bullets be installed directly at the speaker driver terminals. Since I have external Xovers built for bi-wired mode, they are installed in series at the Xover bass/MRT outputs which connects directly to the ribbons.

The regular Quantum Purifiers s have a 0.025 Ohms resistance value. No specs on the bullets...but my guess would be that they have similar resistance values. Did not care to measure them since they are built specifically for that purpose and the mod sounds fantastic to me.

The big one looks like iron cotton in a plastic casing. Or is it an visual effect of the photo?

Hello Jarre,

The larger device is like a large resistor with transparent heat shrink over it. I assure you, there is no cotton in there ;) .

If it was, it would have to be Fine Cotton.
