Studio Grand with view

hello my fellow apogeeneans

instead of contantly whining around that nothing ever happens in here, i decided to share my view when listening to music with you

sorry for the dark pic. either the camera or the operator sucks...

Thats better than an average view! .. living in a country without mountains I can't beat that. My Stages live in an old cozy house in a park from around 1750 - a good match when you listen to Bach and Mozart. I'd say your view looks like one of Mahlers symphonies..

you are right that heating WAS a bit of a problem with this huge glass front (6m wide, 5 to 7m high and additional 4m x 3m on the left side) in the past.

my house is now 38 years old and still had the first set of windows until this year, when we completely renovated the whole buidling with the newest and best triple glazing windows available and additional 16cm of insulation on the outside of all the walls.
that is a night-and-day difference in comfort and especially in energy saving from a almost not insulated early seventies house with a huge window fronts to a modern minergy standard (=minimum energy standard) building fulfilling elevated oekological standards.

heating is not a problem anymore and i hope that the heat in summer will stay outside

Christoph - not really. Sadly, my view is behind the listening chair. The speakers are in the back of the room and I listen either from the front or out on the patio (far field). It is a nice view, but it doesn't include the speakers like yours! The visual component of your listening is really sublime - I am jealous. I'll post a pic anyway.

i extremely enjoy listening to some nice music while looking out of my windows. you should see the view by night. it's even more breathtaking

but as mike pointed out, unfortunately i won't be able to catch that view in a picture

i know it's long overdue that i should share a "new" picture (over a year and a half old )

and it's not fully in line with the thread title but at least one studio grand is in the picture

That's a much better picture then the one you opened the thread with. Are they the 'refurbished' Scintalla's? I think I spot a double ribbon on the left. They look great and much larger then I thought they would be. I thought they would be wider.

you are right, those are henk'd scinnies.
perfectly built pieces of furniture (or should i rather say pieces of art) by the irresistable master henk

you are also right about them being taller. i convinced henk to make them taller and upright (that was quite a fight )
IMHO, they sound a lot better completely upright as long as the middle of the MRTW is on ear-level

I got you. That's a good idea to raise the ribbons.

PS: it's all about setting the exposure to the darker parts you want to display.

The Scintilla in its original form has a tilt between 3-5 degrees, and over time the support struts start to crunch into the particle board backing increasing this tilt still further. As the speakers tilt, and as the speakers age the ribbon assembly (3 ribbons deep) starts to sag towards the back of the magnetic field - and as this happens the response changes. There are several reasons why this is not a good thing - BUT the main (level) is most obvious. I believe the Scintilla should be at a maximum of 2.5 degrees, but better still upright as in this position the ribbons +- response is more in step. Setting them fully upright with a more rigid frame such as how Henk restored the speakers is a good way to do it, higher costs, but greater rewards. It allows the ribbons a chance to perform as good as they can in the Scintilla design...

If the rear strut begins to sink into the rear of the wood frame, insert a 20mm metal washer to spread the pressure
One can make it stand a little more upright by inserting several washers (effectively extending the length of the strut) - or by placing a small book under the back of the base
